The effects of testosterone on male libido
Several studies have been conducted to find out the effects of testosterone on aging. According to an article from the November 1999 issue of the Life Extension Foundation Journal, low levels of testosterone in aging males are the cause of reduced sexual drives. In younger males, low levels of estrogen are often produced to turn off the cell-stimulating effects of testosterone in men. When the testosterone-production mechanism remains turned off because of the increase in estrogen production, this results in a pronounced decline in sexual arousal and libido in men.
Another effect of estrogen is that it promotes the binding of free molecules of testosterone in the bloodstream, making it unavailable for testosterone receptor sites. For this hormone to be effective at increasing and maintaining the sexual drive in men, free forms of the hormone should be available in the bloodstream. Therefore, the natural solution would be to decrease the amount of estrogen in order to increase serum levels of testosterone to bring back the healthy and natural libido in men.
